My lunch
runs have been following a particular trend lately. It’s called summertime
humidity….
Now I realize I have choices. I could run in the mornings to try
to beat the humidity, but there’s this….
Despite the humidity, I was feeling pretty good at the start of my lunch
run. A nice breeze made the humidity feel less intense, so I cut right to
the chase and fell into some 8:30’s. Soon, I got that “floating”
sensation and knew I had to back off. It’s remarkable how much of a
difference 8:40’s vs. 8:30’s make when the heat/humidity are at play. Or
even if you’re just running a bit faster than comfortable. In any case, I
continued steadily in the 8:40’s range and felt SO much better. Better
yet, I did not fall to the ground and have to have the “Slush” vendor revive
me (ewww).
Although, a free Slush sure does sound good!
How is your running going in the hot and/or humid weather?
Most importantly, what flavor Slush is your favorite?
You know, it hasn't been so bad here in Asheville. I actually like the warmer weather for some runs. But I'm not seriously training for anything. Just fun runs. But they've been pretty easy to fit in when it is only 4-5 miles and the temps aren't too terrible. I'd rather hot than freezing cold. No favorite flavor slush. If I did choose one I suppose strawberry.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you....much prepare warm than cold. Today was less humid, so got some relief :) I'll go with Grape-anything!
DeleteI haven't done lunch runs lately because of that. Last year I about died (not really but it sounds good) during a super humid and hot lunch run. It's hard to check eyes when you are suffering from heat stroke.... lol Today is less humid so we'll see if I can get a run in.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine you trying to check eyes and finding you're in someone's ears instead!
DeleteHere in southeast Texas, the mornings are more humid and the evenings are hotter. All of it slows me down!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Texas yet, but have heard just that! I bet it makes you stronger for when you run in cooler, less humid weather :)
