Running for the trail of it

Scott asked if I was interested in running trails with him….
You can see how miserable I was to run trails with Scott....NOT!
After several days of rain and colder temperatures, Monday finally brought us some decent Spring weather (no mittens!!).  But the rain and beavers had left their mark on the road to the trail head –
Where the heck is the road??
Fortunately, we had Scott’s big rig....

It’s been 6 months since I’ve done any real training on trails and these particular trails prepared me for StoneCat last November.  Running them again after all of this time made me hunger for the challenge all over again.  After having such a great Spring marathon, I’m finding it hard to not sign up for every race I see.  And with this year’s StoneCat turning to a lottery registration, the desire is even greater!  I mean after all, don’t we always want the things we can’t have or that we can only obtain through a lottery?

Sharing some pictures of our very fun morning on the trails, courtesy of Scott –

Trail running serves as such a great reminder of how fun (and challenging) running can be.  Don’t get me wrong, I worked.  And I’m sore.  But it’s a good work and a good sore.  I mean, this self-portrait doesn’t lie!

Anyone else feeling a bit trigger happy with race registrations?

    1. It sure was Maureen! I haven't had a chance to read your 50K race report yet, but really looking forward to it. Hope it was a great time :)

  2. What a beautiful run. I wish we had more trails to run where I live. I love to race and probably way over race. If I don't have at least one a month I feel like I'm missing out.

    1. Even with the fear of falling (I didn't this past weekend), I really love the trails. I'll share soon my plans (wink)

  4. I do get the race bug in me quite often especially on National Runner's Day when all of the races are offering discounts. I have always wanted to try trail running but I would probably fall flat on my butt! A 50 miler sounds pretty scary to me. I can barely survive the marathon!

    1. I disagree! You did more than survive your marathon :)

Trails can definitely be tricky, but you sort of adopt a new footing as you get used to the uneveness, rocks, roots. Falling is not fun, but even that is a learned talent!

  5. Trail running is amazing on the right trail. Hmmm about the trigger happy part. I am debating signing up last minute for a half on Sunday. I ran the full a few years ago and LOVED it, but it is at altitude and I am just getting used to it again. So I cannot decide if I should go out and enjoy it (stunning views, no PR, a true fun run) or if it will make me regret it.

    1. Sometimes the quiet/unassuming/last-minute signups can be the best (i.e. no pressure cuz there's no time, probably no advertising on blog etc cuz there's no time...)

  9. That looks like such a great place to run. I definitely need to start doing some trail running. Yup, I'm trigger happy and registered for the BAA 10k even though I may not be able to run it.
