Next stop...Vermont City!

Signed up...

After a great run yesterday – both physically and mentally – I decided on this potentially crazy idea of running KeyBank Vermont City Marathon (VCM) in 5 weeks!  Don’t get me wrong, I covered every step of that Boston Marathon course (my quads and calves will attest to it), but at the slower pace forced by the heat, I’ve felt a strong thirst for more since that day.

I have a special place for VCM (Meaghan and I became fast friends while training for 2004) and a special place for VT as well.  Ever since I began working for a VT based company and began taking frequent drives North, I’ve really enjoyed the area and the culture.  VT also took quite a hit during Hurricane Irene last year, so every little bit of tourist (or runner) dollars helps fuel their economy and their rebuilding efforts.

Fortunately, this decision was not made over a bottle of wine, so I don’t expect any race-registration-regret in the morning.  Instead, I’ll get dressed and head out for a run.  After all, I’ve got a race to train/taper for!

    1. Thanks Bill :)

Funny, I see you've done some of the same badass races as I (i.e. Boston of course, Baystate '09....). Maybe "badass" will be my mantra at VCM!

  3. Sounds like fun!! After switching gears for Boston I can understand where you are coming from! Good timing though since you're already there. I'd be interested in how you will train for those five weeks since I have considered running two marathons which are pretty close together too.

    1. I've considered it before, but each time got nervous that it was too much or too crazy. Maybe it is crazy, but we'll see :)

Today, I ran a little over 7; next week will try to jump to 15ish; then go for a 20. From there, I will have the "traditional" 3 wk taper. I think it'll work..

    1. Thanks again Terzah! The one saving grace is, I don't think I'll ever feel a hotter race than Boston 2012. But I will wish for a cooler day for sure :)

  6. I've done marathons with about 6 weeks between the two and I was just fine - and I raced both hard. In fact, the 2nd was a PR :). So sorry that Boston was so blahy hot....don't you just wish all marathon race days just had ideal 55 degree weather!?!? :) Anyway, I think the Vermont Marathon is a great idea!!

    1. Thanks Jill! Great to hear of other successes in attempting 2 marathons so close together.

Of course, yesterday would've been much closer to a marathon day - drizzly and raw. Just perfect! Oh well, keeps us on our toes....

    1. Thanks Marlene...for sure my Boston-wear will accompany me to Vermont. I'm sure it will make for some great conversation :)

Actually, Vermont City is using the whole BAA deferment to try to get runners to sign up, who may have deferred this year's Boston. Great angle!
